Peru Packing List

Temperatures and weather varies greatly in Peru, especially if you are travelling to different areas of the country. During the day it can be very hot while at night and can get extremely chilly. For this reason, it is important to pack to be prepared and wearing layers is the most important part of being comfortable in Peru. Here is a suggested packing list for clothing:

  • 1 high quality rain-resistant jacket (heavy downpours are not uncommon)
  • Rain- resistant pants (especially if you plan on hiking)
  • 1 fleece jacket to wear as a layer under your rain coat
  • Pair of waterproof hiking boots or sneakers
  • A couple of sweaters to layer
  • A few long sleeve shirts and a few short sleeve shirts
  • 1 Pair of shorts
  • 1-2 pairs of jeans/pants
  • Warm pajamas
  • Undergarments
  • Bathing suit and sandals for beach or hot spring
  • Thick socks
  • 1-2 nice outfits (slacks, skirt, dress, etc) for a nice dinner out or a night on the town


  • Toothbrush/toothpaste
  • Soap
  • Deoderant
  • Shampoo
  • High SPF sunblock
  • Moisturizing lotion
  • Insect repellant
  • Medications, Diamox, anti-diarrheal pills, ibuprofen etc.


  • Camera, with plenty of memory and extra batteries
  • Day pack for day-long excursions
  • Purse or waist bag with secure zippers
  • Refillable water bottle
  • Electronic adaptors
  • Sewing kit
  • Travel alarm clock
  • Hide multiple copies of your passport, credit cards, insurance cards, etc. in safe places throughout your luggage
